Mount Airy Public Library

Like many government and municipal buildings, granite is the common material of construction for libraries as it is beautiful, inspiring, long lived and easy to maintain. Libraries get heavy traffic so the interiors should be granite too. There is a wide range of colors for exterior and even larger selection for interiors that will give the architect unlimited options. Vehicular traffic around a library and its parking lot can be given a matching level of quality with granite curbing and walks, and the parks, plazas and retaining walls should be of granite too. Even the signs, outside and inside, can be made of granite to give both long life and easy maintenance—and resistance to heavy use and vandalism. The life of a typical library is very long, and only granite can be expected to keep the "opening day" look for centuries.
